Doula Training

A doula is a woman from the community who is trained to give continuous support throughout labour and delivery, as well as in the weeks before and after birth. A volunteer doula won't replace a woman's friends and family, but she will be there to give extra emotional and practical support as well as ideas for comfort measures to the woman giving birth and to her support team.

Doulas are trained as volunteers by our certified instructor (certified by the Doulas of North America) and matched with expectant mothers and their families.

Method of Delivery: In-home support and in-centre workshops.

Frequency of Delivery: 10 week session, 3 hours per week, two 12-hour shifts on the labour and delivery floor at the IWK.

Approximate number of doulas trained each session: 10-18
